Bridging the creative gap

We're professional collaborators with one goal: communicating your message in the most creative, compelling way possible. Synapse brings together more than twenty years' post-production and design experience with the philosophy of a brain trust: fusing specialties and diverse perspectives to come up with the best approach to your challenge.

And we do like a challenge. Design a one-off panoramic editing and playback system? Yes please. Imagine the future's tech for your sci-fi epic? No problem! Visualize vastly complex science for the masses? Consider it done. We're always hungry for the next chance to make something great.

Editorial

The finish starts here: the right pacing, the right sound, the right music for your story. We specialize in documentary, reality and educational projects, but we've been known to tackle the odd narrative and commercial.

Color Grading

Shot matching. Mood enhancing. Attention grabbing. We handle color grading and mastering for broadcast, corporate, and indie film projects on our uncompressed 2K DaVinci Resolve system, including experienced stereo correction for 3D projects.

Motion Graphics

You've got a great story; now let us give it a voice. Opening titles and packaging. Infographics and explainers. A bit of visual effects. No matter the brief, we'll give your project an unforgettable identity.

The team

  • Ryan Shepheard - Editor/Colorist

    Ryan Shepheard

    Principal / Editor & Colorist

Ryan has brought his editorial, graphic, and technical talents to projects for clients including PBS, History, Smithsonian Channel, Science Channel, 3net, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment, and the National Park Service. His editing credits include "Cold Case JFK", "Mystery Sub", and "Sputnik Declassified" (CINE Golden Eagle recipient) for PBS science series NOVA; Titanic: 100 Years in 3D, and series Deep Sea Detectives and Tougher in Alaska for History; Ice Cold Gold for Animal Planet; short narrative film "Walk On By" (dir. Lisa Wolfinger); independent documentary feature The Rivals (dir. Kirk Wolfinger); and indie horror feature The Hanover House (dir. Corey Norman).

Outside broadcast and film, Ryan maintains an ongoing collaboration with the Advanced Imaging and Visualization Laboratory at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, developing 3D, 4K, and other outside-the-box post-production workflows for projects from expeditions to Titanic to explorations of New Zealand.

Ryan's first edit, a 45-minute student science fiction film, was cut in the spring of 1998 using a borrowed computer and equipment purchased with the generosity of the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation. It lovably and utterly stank.
